Our cost effective RMD150 and RMD300 series of DC/DCs are fully compliant with railway standards and Best-In-Class Products.
With a fully regulated single output (24V or others, e.g. 110V), each product has an ultra-wide input range of 16.8V to 137V continuous and 14.4V to 154V short term, to include all common global railway nominals. This allows to reduce the variety of models and brings considerably logistic advantages for stocking, availability and price conditions.
Both parts are typically 94% efficient (peak >95%) and against other solutions with an average efficiency of 90%, this means a reduction of power losses and heat dissipation in the end-application of 40% by using the RECOM RMD-Models. 40% less heat dissipation will undoubtfully expand the life time!
Both series are come in metal cases rated IP-20 for chassis-mounting for natural convection in any mounting position. The parts operate from -40°C to +70°C continuously and to 85°C for 15 minutes at full without derating power. Thus, no power over-dimensioning is necessary, as with other solutions which need to derate above 55°C or 70°C. This meets the rail operating temperature Class OT4 and extended Classes ST1 and ST2. Coming soon, an ‘-E’ version extends the startup temperature down to -50°C.
Certifications/compliance include rail standard EN 50155, EMC standards EN 50121-3-2 and IEC/EN 61000-4-2,3,4,5, EN 50124-1 for insulation coordination and EN 45545-2 hazard level HL1-HL3 for railway fire safety. The parts also hold certification to IEC/EC 62368-1 for non-rail applications. Isolation is 3.5kVAC/5kVDC, reinforced grade. The products are designed for Over-Voltage Category III (OVC III) environments up to 2000m altitude and OVCII to 5000m. The parts comply with environmental standards including EN 60068 for temperature testing and EN 61373 for life, shock and vibration in Class B body-mount applications.
The RMD units are ready to use and do not need any external components or additional heat sinks. Inrush current limitation is provided along with full protection against input reverse polarity and under-voltage, 10ms holdup from 24VDC input after interruption or input short circuit, along with over-temperature and output over-current, over-voltage and short circuits. An internal OR-ing diode is included, allowing the RMD150 and RMD300 to be paralleled for increased power or redundancy or battery charging. Control and monitoring features include remote ON/OFF, current share pin, output trim, and a ‘Power OK’ LED with associated floating changer contacts.
