Having secured an early award in the driver standings, the HCB-Rutronik Racing team moved on to the grand finale for a highly competitive overall victory in the team standings at the Sachsenring.

The first qualifying session on Saturday saw Dennis Marschall and his Audi R8 LMS in the first row at second place for the third consecutive year. Patric Niederhauser had less luck in the qualifying rounds, starting at fourteenth place.

Even with a 30 kg handicap weight, the two champions embarked on a remarkable game of catch-up in the first race, putting on an exhilarating show of first-class motor racing before the spectators; unfortunately, Kelvin van der Linde ended up at fourth place in the twenty-fourth lap. A crash that van der Linde did not cause led to valve damage, forcing the South African to change tyres – which put him back to nineteenth place.

Lady Luck was not looking in Dennis Marschall’s direction either as he had to give up during the first lap after a starting accident that he also did not cause. HCB-Rutronik Racing lost its nine-point championship lead on the tables down to two championship points behind in the title race for the team standings but pulled themselves together for the Sunday final to make up for it.

Kelvin van der Linde rose to the moment with a phenomenal qualifying time and secured his debut team’s fourth pole position of the season. Kelvin van der Linde and Patric Niederhauser proved their championship worth with a superior start-to-finish victory and a 59-point lead to contribute to the overall championship standings.

After a highly successful ADAC GT Masters debut, the Remchingen-based team are gearing up for the DMV GTC final at the Hockenheimring followed by the FIA GT World Cup in Macau, where the championship team will be racing as the Audi Sport Team Rutronik from 15–17 November 2019 at the World Championship in GT racing.
