RECOM converter survive the “Tower of Torture”

One of the questions we get asked is “how reliable are your converters when used in high dv/dt applications?”

So we built a “torture tower” where we could subject RxxPxx converters to long term 1000V high slew rate switching waveforms at 50kHz and high ambient temperature. We then got a Professor of high voltage physics at Graz University to analyse the converters before and after the 1500 hour ordeal using partial discharge testing.

His report is attached, but the main result is that “1000V switching at up to 65kV/µs has no effect on the lifetime” whatsoever.
