High Power Density

Power density of an AC/DC or DC/DC converter is measured in ‘watts of output power per cubic centimetre’ and a high value is clearly an advantage to the end-user, enabling more power for a given volume or smaller size for a given power. However, this must not be at the cost of heavy derating or excessive temperature rise, so high converter efficiency and thermal performance is essential. To achieve this, innovative circuit design and packaging is necessary - follow the link to ‘3D Power Packaging’ where the technologies that RECOM uses to achieve these goals in its products are explained, with example products showing class-leading power density. The ‘Industry and Electromobility’ link leads you to a description of RECOM products designed for these often-harsh applications, where high power density is typically demanded, but without compromise in reliability or cost-effectiveness.
