スイッチングレギュレータは、非効率なリニアレギュレータを代替する理想的な製品です。2005年R-78の開発を始めたとき、すぐに非常に大きな可能性を実感しました。この製品は、非効率なリニアレギュレータを97%の効率をもって代替し、ヒートシンクを不要にしました。また、ピン互換なので、既存の設計にそのまま使用することができました。 長年にわたり当社のR-78ポートフォリオは、より高い出力電流（最大2A）または最大100Vのより広い入力電圧へと、この省スペースSIP3設計から逸脱することなく拡張されてきました。

現在では、競合がRECOM製品のコピー品を作り出し、不正のコスト削減及び販売を行うようになりました。今日、このような中国におけるコピー品に対抗し、RECOMの名前を保護するために、RECOMのロゴを刻印するよう変更しました。
