RECOM’s Commitment to Corporate Sustainability

A row of newly planted trees between existing trees
In 2022, RECOM planted a tree for each business card collected at the many international trade shows that we attended. Through this sustainability program, we planted hundreds of trees, helping to neutralize the carbon emissions of meeting new customers at exhibitions from Embedded World to Electronica. Our initiative offset a kilometer of expo travel for every product in the RECOM catalog—not just for one year, but for the next 60–100 years! We’re proud that we exceeded our green initiative goals, but as with anything at RECOM, we never settle.

So, for 2023 and beyond, we wanted to find more ways to bring our sustainability efforts closer to the regions we are involved in. And the number of pins on our manufacturing map is growing—opening the doors on new facilities and new opportunities to fight climate change.

Our green initiatives take root in new ground

Certificate from the organization “One Tree Planted"
This year, we begin with Thailand, through the organization “One Tree Planted”. Since 2014, this organization has planted over 100 million trees in 80 countries by making it simple for both corporations and individuals to contribute to reforestation efforts. The organization provides progress updates, giving partners an up-close look into how their funds transform saplings into lush forests.

“Wherever we have an ecological footprint, we have a responsibility to support the local biodiversity of those communities,” says Karsten Bier, RECOM CEO. “Instead of turning a blind eye to environmental effects of manufacturing, we’re honing in. We aim to help the new regions we enter flourish far into the future.”

The Thailand program has two branches. First, our efforts will help restore watersheds for residents and wildlife. Secondly, our donations support sustainable agroforestry for over 1,000 smallholder farmers in the region. By collaborating with communities where we operate, we are not only contributing to environmental preservation but also supporting local economies.

Going Beyond Reforestation

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the overall manufacturing industry contributes to one-fifth of carbon emissions globally. This growing realization across all sectors highlights that environmental responsibility is not just nice-to-have, but a necessity.

So, you will find our reforestation efforts are part of a larger strategy to integrate an eco-friendly agenda into every aspect of our operations. We are also:

  • Partnering with sustainability experts to reduce waste in our manufacturing processes
  • Improving the efficiency of converter designs to reduce energy consumption
  • Introducing new conformal coatings that eliminate unnecessary potting
  • Engineering intelligent power supplies for electric railway projects and smart cities and buildings
  • Investing in renewable energy sectors

In our pursuit of environmental corporate responsibility, we’re not just planting trees but nurturing a global vision.

2024 and Beyond: The Future of Our Green Initiatives

In the coming years, new RECOM facilities will introduce highly automated processes that get high-quality power solutions into your hands faster. New lightweight, reliable, and highly efficient AC/DC & DC/DC power supplies for E-mobility, EV chargers and railways are a focus of our latest developments, assisting the low-carbon-footprint mobility revolution.

At these new manufacturing locations, our refined production techniques will reduce turnaround times and pioneer new customized solutions for our partners.
