RECOM’s Environmental Initiatives and Corporate Responsibility

A row of newly planted trees between existing trees
In 2022, RECOM planted a tree for each business card collected at the international trade shows we attended. Through this initiative, we supported the planting of hundreds of trees as part of reforestation projects linked to our trade show activities. We’re proud that we exceeded the goals set for the initiative, but as with anything at RECOM, we never settle.

So, for 2023 and beyond, we wanted to find more ways to bring our sustainability efforts closer to the regions we are involved in. And the number of pins on our manufacturing map is growing—opening the doors on new facilities and new opportunities to implement measures aimed at reducing environmental impacts.

Our Environmental Initiatives Take Root in New Ground

Certificate from the organization “One Tree Planted"
This year, we begin with Thailand, through the organization “One Tree Planted”. Since 2014, this organization has planted over 100 million trees in 80 countries by making it simple for both corporations and individuals to contribute to reforestation efforts. The organization provides regular progress updates, allowing partners to follow the development of the reforestation projects they support.

“Wherever we operate, we have a responsibility to support biodiversity in the local communities,” says Karsten Bier, RECOM CEO. “Instead of turning a blind eye to environmental effects of manufacturing, we’re honing in. We aim to help the new regions we enter flourish far into the future.”

The Thailand program has two branches. First, our efforts support projects aimed at restoring watersheds for local communities and wildlife. Secondly, our donations support agroforestry projects involving more than 1,000 smallholder farmers in the region. By collaborating with local communities, we support reforestation initiatives and community-based economic activities.

Going Beyond Reforestation

Our reforestation efforts are part of a broader strategy to integrate specific environmental measures into our operations.
We are also:

  • Partnering with sustainability experts to reduce waste in our manufacturing processes
  • Improving the efficiency of converter designs to reduce energy consumption
  • Introducing new conformal coatings that reduce the need for potting
  • Engineering intelligent power supplies for electric railway projects and smart cities and buildings
  • Investing in renewable energy sectors

In our pursuit of environmental corporate responsibility, we’re not just planting trees but nurturing a global vision.

Looking Ahead: The Future of Our Environmental Initiatives

In the coming years, new RECOM facilities will introduce highly automated processes that get high-quality power solutions into your hands faster. New lightweight, reliable, and highly efficient AC/DC & DC/DC power supplies for E-mobility, EV chargers and railways are a focus of our latest developments, supporting the evolving power conversion requirements of these applications.

At these new manufacturing locations, our refined production techniques will reduce turnaround times and pioneer new customized solutions for our partners.
